Welcome! This musical journey has been a long and challenging but also fun and rewarding time in the making, and I am infinitely proud to finally be able to present it to you all. I am Kn0Nek, a multi-instrumentalist who writes, arranges, performs, records and produces original and delectable sonic morsels for your audible palette and pleasure. I also recreate other artist’s material from time to time and attempt to bring forth my own unique interpretation to them.
The music I create navigates throughout a wide variety of genres, evolving and mutating between spaces encompassing Psychedelic Fusion, Experimental Electronica, Improvisational & Jam-oriented material, Avant-Garde improvisational jams, Noise-Rock, Singer / Songwriter craftsmanship, Acoustic tones, Soul, New Wav, Grunge, Alternative, Funk, Progressive Fusion and the Psi-genre, along with an eclectic mix of many more:
I find serenity, peace and inspiration within the Slacker Vortex, my personal home studio in Manorville, NY. I use this space to creatively work through this magical experience we call life, and the eclectic sense of profound emotion that is brought forth with it. Nothing makes me happier than to spend countless hours in the Vortex, working my way through the indelible art of creation.
I had a strong affinity for music from a very young age, and trained on the piano, cello and in choir in my formative years in elementary, middle and high school. I went on to study songwriting with an emphasis on performance at Berklee College of Music in 1998, and left in 2003 to pursue other post-academic musical ventures.
My influences are far ranging and of a wide variety. You’ll find the sounds evolving and mutating between spaces encompassing Psychedelic Fusion, Experimental Electronica, Improvisational & Jam-oriented material, Avant-Garde, Industrial, Noise-Rock, Singer / Songwriter craftsmanship, Acoustic tones, soul, New Wav, Pop, Grunge, Alternative, funk, Progressive Fusion and the Psi-genre, along with an eclectic mix of many more;
I love Squarepusher and Simon Posford, The Grateful Dead and Phish, Nine Inch Nails, Amon Tobin and Tori Amos, Nirvana and the Disco Biscuits, Air and Beck, Al Di Meola and the Alan Parsons Project, Radiohead, George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, Björk, the 3 Kings, Alice in Chains from the Layne Stayley era and the entire late 80’s / early 90’s Grunge scene, Aphex Twin, Tuck Andress, LCD Soundsystem, Outkast, Shpongle & Twisted Records, The Talking Heads, Prince, the Screaming Trees… and the list goes on.
My intention is to blend a little bit of everything from my musical catalogue and experiences, and draw inspiration through the energy and emotion of life and the rich, full beauty of musical history. From the Blues and Jazz of the late 19th and first half of the 20th century, to the experimental psychedelic rock of the 60’s, the Progressive-infused and Funk and Disco eras of the 70’s, the hair band and metal scene of the 80’s to the grunge and alternative scene and beginning of seeing electronic music in popular circles for the first time (at least here in the states) to end the 20’th century, there is just such a rich history to explore. That’s not even mentioning modern day music and the past quarter century!
I will be talking a little bit each week about my all of this, as well as my current projects, the creative process, my workflow in general, and anything new in music or music tech in a blog on “Monday’s Musical Musings”.
Here on kn0nek.com I will be posting still photos and videos of the Vortex and the work I do in it on “The Slacker Vortex” page here on kn0nek.com. I hope you will find the materials audibly and visually stimulating.
You will also be able to watch and listen to all of this in high definition for free. In time I may add subscription tiers with more benefits, more engagement and more material, however there is now and will always be a free way to watch and listen to at least some of my music.
You will be able to find the high definition streaming audio and video on the “Latest Audio” and “Latest Video” menus.
You can also read more about Kn0Nek and my work on the “About” page.
Finally, there will be a contact form where you can contact me about any questions you may have, or even to jam (I may be looking to form a band), as well as a form to give you the opportunity to sign up for my newsletter, which will be infrequent and spam-free, I give you my word.
Well, that just about concludes the summation of the inaugural welcoming to kn0nek.com
I hope you enjoy perusing the neighborhood, and find my creations audibly and visually stimulating, as well as appealing to your piquant palette!
